Aware of the inestimable value of the ecosystem services that its forests provide to its people and to humanity as a whole, Gabon believes that the time has come for the international community to support its efforts in return... The time for promises and declarations of intent is over. It's time to put into practice the implementation of the Glasgow Leaders' Statement on Forests and Land Use.

We'll survive together, or we'll all perish!
Let's wake up from the sleep of selfishness!

Sovereign Carbon

"2 million hectares of Central African rainforest lost between 2015 and 2020, and a further 1.5 million degraded".

CAFI (Central African Forest Initiative)

Because global warming is a reality

The planet is warming by 0.2°c per decade due to human activity.

Because man is responsible

Human activities, and in particular the consumption of fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal), artificially increase the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thereby accentuating global warming.

Because Gabon is one of the countries most exposed to global warming

Gabon is one of the Central African countries which, despite contributing relatively little to global greenhouse gas emissions, are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. However, Gabon is facing several challenges due to climate change, such as: rising sea levels, changes in rainfall, deforestation and loss of biodiversity, impacts on livelihoods.

Because the international community is committed to combating climate change, and most countries are taking steps to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Paris Agreement, adopted by 196 countries, is a historic commitment by the international community to limit global warming to 1.5° above pre-industrial levels. Most countries have defined long-term development strategies with low greenhouse gas emissions.

Because Gabon has the right and the duty to take measures to limit greenhouse gas emissions on its territory.

The Sovereign Carbon Initiative aims to promote and develop programs with social, energy and environmental impacts, for the benefit of the country's sustainable economic development, and the protection of the most vulnerable populations exposed to the consequences of global warming.
