AGADEV and Partnership For Forest: working together to enhance the value of natural capital
July 22, 2025On Thursday June 26, 2025, the Agence Gabonaise pour le Développement de l’Économie Verte (AGADEV) (Gabonese Agency for the Development of the Green Economy) brought together representatives from the aviation sector at a consultation workshop, chaired by its Managing Director, Madame Scyrielle Philomene SENDE ETALI. The meeting was part of the process of implementing the Carbon Contribution, a mechanism introduced by the Gabonese government to provide a framework for offsetting emissions linked to transport activities.
Discussions focused on the practicalities of implementing this mechanism, with the aim of making it easier to understand and apply in the field. At the end of the discussions, a number of possible adjustments were identified, aimed in particular at simplifying invoicing and payment procedures, in a spirit of constructive collaboration between stakeholders.
Based on the “polluter pays” principle, the Carbon Contribution establishes a clear regulatory framework for air and maritime operators operating in or transiting through Gabon. It provides for transparent calculation and repayment mechanisms, designed to integrate the operational realities of the sectors concerned.
Beyond its regulatory dimension, this measure reflects Gabon’s commitment to controlling the carbon footprint of its economic activities. It represents a concrete instrument for implementing the national strategy to combat climate change and support the ecological transition.
By initiating this dialogue with industry players, AGADEV is affirming its determination to anchor the Carbon Contribution in a dynamic of consultation, a guarantee of efficiency and shared responsibility.
